WHANGAREI BOROUGH WATERWORKS.

Ten tons of lead for the waterworks about to be constructed for the use of the Whangarei borough have been landed at. the upper wharf this week. Had it arrived during the dry weather, a week ago. it. would have had quite a cheering effect, but now it is somewhat different. At any rate, it has arrived, and ratepayers will all be pleased to welcome this first instalment of the works, which are so much required here in the summer time. I understand that in, a fewdays Mr. Metcalf, 0.E., will be on the ground to arrange about the construction of the dam in the Whau Whau Valley. Tlv>re is a very good time of the year coming for breaking up the roads for the laying of the water-pipes, so that with plenty of men that work should not take long. In the skilful hands of Mr. Metcalf, who has proved himself to be so well up in this kind of work, the borough waterworks should soon be an accomplished fact.[Own Correspondent.!
