CO. (LIMITED). The Waihi Gold Mining Company (Limited) have issued an interim quarterly report from the London office, under date of August 31, in which is given the following information relating to the principal developments in the mine: Work upon the Empire lode has been confined to the fifth level and to several parts of the lode at the eastern end, where the reef has been driven upon for about 197 ft. Two crosscuts through the reef at 450 ft and 500 ft east respectively have been made, showing the reef to be, at tsoft, 33ft wide, of the average value of £2 13s per ton. and at 500 ft, _ 21ft wide, of the average value of £5 15s 5d per ton. Still further east, in a crosscut south-west from No. 4 shaft, still at No. 5 level, the reef has been found showing a width of 282 ft, of the value of upwards of £4 per ton. Still further east, in a crosscut south-east from No. 4 shaft, a reef has been cut. supposed to be the Empire or a part of it. and driven into for Bft, of the value of about £3 per ton. These developments show that the Empire lode at the fifth level has extended eastward over 120 ft beyond the point where broken ground in the fourth level interrupted its course eastward. The total distance now driven upon the Empire lode and its branches at the fifth level is about 1144 ft. Only one crosscut has been made in the Regina lode since the last circular, which shows the reef to be Bft wide, of the value of £5 9s Id per ton. Driving has been suspended for the present, as the ore coming to hand is highly mineralised, and it is not desirable to increase the supply of mineralised ore until the alterations at the mills are in a more advanced condition, and the mills -".re prepared to treat it. The developments upon the Martha lode at the fifth level east continue to be satisfactory, and as far as advanced confirm the anticipations that the fifth level will De better than the fourth level. East of No. 1 shaft, crosscuts through the reef show the following results: In the circular of June 27 last the crosscuts at 50ft and 100 ft were reported as follows: —At 50ft east: Lode 35ft wide, average value throughout, £2 8s 7d per ton. At 100 ft east: "Lode 53ft wide, average value throughout, £4 4s 7d per ton. Since that date the following crosscuts have been made:—At lodft east: Lode 53ft wide, average value throughout, £4 10s 9d per ton. At 200 ft east: Lode 45ft wide, average value throughout, £3 5s 4d per ton. At 250 ft east: Lode 44ft wide, average value throughout, £6 17s 7d per ton. A comparison of the width and value of the reef for the 250 ft driven east of No. 1 shaft in the fifth level, with the width and value of the reef in the fourth level, over the same distance gives the following results:—ln the fourth level the reef averages 31ft, while the width in the fifth level averages over 45ft 6in, or nearly one-third larger iu size, while the value of the reef in No. 5 level is £4 7s 3d per ton, as against £4 3s Id, the value in No. 4 level. A crosscut at 100 ft west of No. 2 shaft previously commenced lias been completed, showing the reef to be 25ft wide and of low grade. Three crosscuts have been made in the reef between No. 1 and No. 2 shafts. The first at 328 ft, the second at 378 ft from the crosscut at No. 2 shaft, show the reef to bo respectively 45ft and 32ft wide, having on one side about 15ft of payable ore; the remainder is lower grade. " The third crosscut has been made at 105 ft west of No. 1 shaft; the reef is 40ffc wide, of the average value of £3 Is lOd per ton. No driving appears to have been done upon the south flection of this lode; 38ft appear to have been driven upon the north section. One crosscut has been made showing the reef to be 30ft wide, about half of which is payable. The mills: At the annual meeting "shareholders were informed that instructions had been given for the alteration of the remaining 100 head of stamps at the new mill at Waikino from dry to a wet-crush-ing plant, and that thereafter the 90 head of stamps at Waihi would also be converted and used as a wet-crushing plant. Further additions to the concentration machinery are required for the purpose of treating mineralised ore, of which there is a considerable quantity in the mine, and more coming forward. For several months past experiments have been made at the mill to determine the best form of concentrator, and the requisite additions are being made in accordance with the result of these experiments. The concentration, plant is in use in connection with 20 head of stamps, and is now being extended to 10 more head of stamps, and further additions will be made to the plant so as to bring it up to the point of complete efficiency to treat all the mineralised ore as it is mined. At present considerable quantities remain in the stopes untouched, and also in a store paddock awaiting treatment. Some of the mineralised ore from the rich block is now being treated, but in consequence of the limited capacity of the concentration plant, only a small quantity can be treated;" the required additions to the mills are to he made as speedily as possible, so as to bring them up to the point of full efficiency.

HAURAKI NO. 2 G.M. CO. In the Hauiaki No. 2 Gold Mining Com panys mine, at Coromandel, the manage* lias driven into the hangingwall and picked up the reef, which is a fine compact body of ore from 9in to 12in wide. It is more vertical than before, and is in good country.

WAIHI EXTENDED G.M. CO. The north-west drive in the Waihi Extended Gold Mining Company's mine, having been extended a total of 276 ft, and being in less favourable-looking cour.tcv has been stopped. Preparations are r.ow in hand at the shaft in view of its further sinking by contract.

TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED G.M. CO. The result of the first crushing at the Talisman Consolidated Gold Mining Company's new battery will probably be made known on Friday or Saturday next, when the clean-up from the cyanide plant will be completed. The mill ran 10 days in August, and during practically the whole of September, and about 3800 tons of ore have been dealt with.
