The multiplicity ot newspapers has not given rise to many new titles. The old names are used over and over again. There are seven newspaper titles each of which has over a hundred adherents in the United Kingdom. " Advertiser" is the favourite ; there are 160 newspapers of that designation. •' Times" comes next with 150, " News" with 149, " Gazette" with 123, " Chronicle" with ISO* " Herald" with 119, and " Journal" with 104. William IT. oi Germany is very much more the son of his mother than of his father. It is from her that he has inherited Ids extraordinary versatility, and, above all, his force of character and will. To his mother it is that he is mainly indebted for his restless energy, his clearness of vision, his fixity of purpose, his eloquence, Lis intellectual and artistic tastes., '
