—— _ _ MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Mb. H. W. Bkabant, S.M., presided over a sitting of tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. W. S. Laurio v. A. Tooman and Co.: In this case, which was adjourned from September 5, the plaiatiff claims £62 10s, as cost 0 f 100 half-cases of onions, totalling in weight 70691b. which plaintiff alleged ho sold to the defendant company at 12s 6d a case. On the last occasion the case was before the Court the plaintiff's case was taken. At yesterday's hearing the case for the defence was heard, and a large number of witnesses we re examined. The defendant, in giving evidence, said that it wan the universal custom to purchase onions by woight, and he thought plaintiff, when giving him a quotation, meant to sel the onions by the twt, as he did not mention to defendant that he ,as selling them by the' case. After the evidence for tho defence had been heard. His Worship reserved his decision till this rooming. Mr. Baxter represented the plainriff, and Mr. Cotter, instructed by Mr. Battley, appeared for tho defendant company. POLICE COURT NEWS. There, was very little business at the Police Court yesterday. Tho Bench was occupied by Messrs. 'F. G. Clayton and I. Alexander, J.P.'s. Drunkenness: Font male first offenders, charged with having been drunk, were convicted and discharged with the usual caution. Henry Ross Campbell, with several previous convictions for, a similar offence, was fined 40s. with the alternative of going to prison for 14 days with hard labour. By-laws: For riding bicycles on tho footpath at Devonport, Frederick Wild and David Miller were each fined 10s, and 7s costs.
