SUICIDES.

An inquest was held on August 8, on body of Charles O'Brien, formerly a warder at Lvtteltoh prison, who shot himself outside the Star and Garter Hotel. The evidence showed that deceased had brooded over his separation from his wife and :'amily, a.id had taken to drink. A verdict of suicide temporarily insance. ■ Alfred Smith,: about 40 years 'of age shot himself fatally on Aug. 7. At the inquest a verdict was returned of suicide while temporarily insane. • ' A man named Ralph Wilson cut his throat With a pocket knife at Kaiapoi on August 9, and was brought to' Christchurch Hospital, .where the wound was stitched. It is not expected that the injury will result fatally. At Christchurch a man named Thornes Hjobbs Lucds, was found dead in bed on the 12th of August, with his throat cut and a razor beside the bed. Lucas ,had been an hotel manager, but had been out of employment for nine months. He made an attempt to commit suicide two years ago, and was bound over. A verdict of suicide while of unsound mind was returned. ' A man named John Stapleton attempted Buicide at Palmerston North at eight o'clock on Wednesday, the 7th of August, by cutting his throat with a razor. His injuries are serious, but are not expected to prove (fatal.
