Last Sunday evening, at the Missions to Seamen service, in Wellington, the ceremony of unveiling a tablet to the memory of those who lost their Jives by the wreck of the barque Lizzie Bell, near Opunake, was performed by the Hon. W. Hall-Jones, Minister for Marine, in the presence ot a very large congregation. In unveiling the tablet Mr. Hall-Jones said he was proud to think that the day hail come when sailors who met with such an end were not forgotten. Mr. Moore, the missioned referred to the great kindness shown by the settlers to the survivors of the wreck at Oeo (ail of whom were present at _ the ceremony). The settlers took the men into their houses, treated them with great hospitality, and collected £100 for their immediate heads. They also placed a small stone, bearing the name of the man and the date of the incident, on each grave. The.tablet' : unveiled on Sunday night will be hung in the Mission Hall, 'and bears the following inscription; —" To the glory of God and in loving memory of the 12 officers and men who were drowned, or died from exposure, by the wreck of the barque Lizzie Bel), near the Geo River, July 24, 1901. 'Still all mv song shall be, nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee.' Erected by the members and friends of the Mission to Seamen, Wellington, New Zealand." It is engraved m brass, and is set in a foundation of wood, the edge of which is covered with nautical designs.
