INTERCOLONIAL FOOTBALL. 'ARRIVAL OF THE NEW SOUTH WALES | TEAM. ; [BT telegraph.—pbess association.] Wellington-, Thursday. | The New South Wales football team was | formally welcomed at the Council Chambers by the Hon, J. Carroll on behalf of the Ministry, and the Mayor on behalf of the city. Mr. Field, M.H.R., and Mr. Campbell also spoke. The. latter mentioned with approval that both unions had decided that the training and discipline of the teams in future should not be interfered with by indiscriminate banqueting. Mr. Henderson, manager of the ~ visitors, replying, said : be regretted that a number of the best men were unable to make the trip, but they would find that the team would give a good account of themselves. Alluding to the English team that visited Australia recently ho explained that, being mostly students and professional men, th-sy could not Ret extended leave to enable them to visit New Zealand. From what lie saw of them he had no doubt that New j Zealand could easily have held its own, strong j players though the Englishmen were. Re- j specting the proposal to hold a conference re rules in Australia this was approved, but it should take place in the off season. The Wellington team to play against New South Wales on Saturday will be: — Wrigloy, Row, Wallace, Slntterv, Wood, Meredith, ] Mar.son, Kelly, Watkins. Dodd, Adam:--, | •.Ski] ton, O'Brien, McAnally, and Gallagher.
