DEATH OF A VALUABLE BLOOD STALLION.
The Messrs. Nathan suffered a serious loss yesterday by the death of their recently-im-ported stallion Fitzsimons. It appears that on the stud groom, Henry Wilson, going ids rounds of the boxes at Sylvia Park on Saturday night about nine o'clock, he noticed the horse was ailing, and he immediately sent a messenger to Otahuhu, summoning Mr. E. D. Halstead, the well-known veterinary surgeon, by telephone. That gentleman proceeded out with due haste to the Otahuhu estate, remaining at the Park all night; but his efforts to save the animal ; were unfortunately without avail, the horse i dying about seven 1 o'clock yesterday morning. Later in the day Mr. Halstead made a post-mortem examination, when he ascertained that the horse's death was due ,to ; rupture. Fitzsimons was a four-year-old • son of the celebrated St. Simon, and he was ! purchased in England by Ml. L. D. ; Nathan in May last, in order that Sylvia Park should be able to claim a • sire of that successful line. . When landed i from the s.s. Pakeha on Tuesday last, Fitz- • simons mac's a very favourable impression, > and such a beautifully-bred horse coma ! scarcely have failed to prove a stud success. , The Messrs. Nathan are to be sympathised '. with in losing such a promising young sire.
