DEATHS AT BUCKLAND.
The relentless hand . of death has been at work, and our old settlers are dropping off one after another. On Saturday, July 20, the remains of Mrs. Thomas Walker, a respected resident of Tuakau for a great many years, were carried to her last home in the Tuakau cemetery. The Rev. Mr. Marshall, of Pukekohe, conducted the burial service, and a large concourse' of people followed the remains, on horseback, in vehicles, and on foot, of a good wife, a loving mother, and a kind friend. Her age was 60 years. On July 22 another old settler, from the Karaka portion of our district, named Hussey, was interred in the Pukekohe cemetery. Lately he had been living with his daughter;, at Waihi, and after a short illness, had succumbed, and was brought to Pukekohe for burial. On the same day. while a portion of our people were engaged depositing the remains of Mr. HiiHScy to Mother Earth, another death occurred at Paerata (suddenly), when our old and respected friend, Mi. A. Jamieson, was • summoned, in the midst of his man' duties, to leave all, and cross the river to that bourne from which no traveller returns. Mr. Jamieson and family have been located at Paerata. for many vears, where his pretty home can be seen when passing in the train. The farm, which is a large one, has been converted from fern and teatree to beautiful green pastures. This has been brought about by a great outlay of capital, ' arid when his . friend? and neighbours would have liked to see their old friend enjoying the fruits of his labour, be is taken from our midst/' He was respected by all who knew him, and those with whom lie was brought into contact. , He leaves a widow aind a large family to mourn their loss.—[Own Correspondent.] .
