The latest returns are : Heslop .(Government) ... 934 Haselden (Opposition) ... 932 Remington ... 518 It is expected that the remaining returns will increase Mr. Ileslop's majority. s ; Wangantji, Friday. Mr. • Haselden is a son of the late Rev. Haselden, and brother of the S.M. in Wellington. He is a farmer in the Hunterville district. Mr. Heslop is a farmer at Hawera. He was formerly a county councillor in Wanganui, and was chairman for many years of the Hawera County Council, Licensing Bench, and School Committee. He was a member also of the Taranaki Charitable Aid Board and the Taranaki Land Board. He has also been a member of the Egmout Forest Reserve Board, and. always took a prominent part in agricultural societies and racing clubs, being a good judge of stock. Mr. Heslop judged at most of the agricultural and pastoral shows throughout the North Island. Further, it may be said he is a practical dairyman, and lias been actively engaged in work for years until quite recently. "Wellington, Friday. The last returns received by the Government to-night for the Patea seat give Mi. Heslop a majority of 15 over Mr. Haselden. There is still one small return tc come, which cannot be received until to-morrow, but it is not likely to affect the result. . gsss "*
