LAND SETTLEMENT.

[l(Y TELEGRAPH.-—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. Souk interesting reports on estates in ihe Wellington district recently acquired under the Land for Settlements Act, were inn by the (..'town lands rangers to the Land Hoard this morning. The settlers at Te Matua, a piece oi land of 700 acres 110:1 Feilding, were reported to be making excellent progress. The total area is divided into 13 holdings and 11 selectors were residing on their holding;-. The value of the improvements made was much greater then required by law, and the ranger slated that lie considered the settlement a decided success. The Commissioner also slated that the Oliakca Estate, of 1700 acres, on ihe banks of the Rangitikei lliver, should prove very successful. The amount of improvements rennired by law was valued at £500, but the total amount eft' cted, including those made by tin; previous owner, was vaiikd ;.t £3500.
