The ladies of St. Patrick*. parish met at the presbytery last evening, to make arrangements for their annual ball, tendered by the ladies of St. Patrick's O.thedrnl in aid of the presbytery building fund. It will take place on August 29. The animal meeting of the Young Women's Christian Association will take place ill the Y.M.C.A. Rooms on Friday. There will he a social tea, and afterwards a concert. At tho Thames Miners' Hall, Mr. Whitehouse will exhibit to-df.y hi.-; marvellous b'oi'hronoseope, 'direct from the Paris Exhibition. The machine shows an unbroken series of animated pictures. Mr. Geo.' Aldridge will give a lantern lecinre this evening, at the Church of Christ, West-street, the subject being " Elisha, and the Shunamite." A meeting of the members of iho Master Carters' Association will be held in tie; Ranfurly Rooms, Queen-street, to-morrow evening. The Rev. W. Ready lectures to-night at St. John's Wosleyan schoolroom, on his trip to Queensland. To-day Messrs. Baker Bros, will auction a, valuable block of land in Mountain Road, Remuera, in the estate of the late Joseph Skolton, containing upwards of 12 acres. At the same time properties at Newmarket and Avondale South will be offered.
