THE BRITISH BIRTH-RATE.
Bv Telegraph.—Pre** Association.—Copyright. London, June 24. The Very Rev. W. S. Fremantle, Dean of Eipon, in a letter to the Times, says the British "drth-rate is seriously decreasing. In 1875 it was 35 per 1000; now it is 29.
The Dean of Ripon's letter is somewhat belated. The figures ho quotes were published months ago, and ivero commented upon in all the leading papers in England. Last year the. birth-rate was 29.3 per 1000, the lowest ever recorded. Curiously eno'ugh all the. world over, with few exceptions, a similar change is noted. In New Zealand the decline Iris been most marked, the rate having fallen from 37.32 per 1000 in 1332 to 25.71 'in 1895.
