THE CHRISTCHURCH REVIEW.
The action of the Government in gathering volunteers from all parts of the North Island to lake part in r militarj review a* Chrlstchurch is deserving of severe condemnation. It will lie a verj pleasant trip for the men and a very pleasant show altogether, bub it is ridiculous to imagine that we can impress the Duke and Duchess by the parading of a few companies more or less and that they will not observe the theatrical process of marching the same men round and iound the various parade grounds. Had the review at Christchurch been one ot all South Island troops no objection could have been taken to their assembling, but to ship hundreds of men from the North, at heavy expense and who have already been reviewed, surpasses reason. More money will be spent on this absurd, and totally un-called-for transportation than has been spent by the Government in assisting Auckland in bearing the cost of the Royal reception. Mr. Seddon is getting worse. We are not surprised that even his most faithful followers would not be sorry to see him settled comfortably in Fiji.
