At the adjourned meeting of the Licensing Bench this morning the magistrate postponed ills decision upon the new license applications sine die, and also adjourned the renewal applications pending personal inspection of the premises. WaNGANUI, Friday. The Supreme Court, criminal sessions concluded to-day. Thomas Spalding, for common assault, was sentenced to fctir months; George Shannahan, alias Shan ion. for a brutal assault on an elderly woman was sentenced to eight years' hard labour; and William Drummond Smith, on a charge of arson, was sentenced to two and a-half years hard labour. The civil sittings are adjourned till the 4th insl.

Mr. Harry Hemus, formerly assistant officer in charge at the Auckland Telegraph Office, is up from Wanganui, on sick leave. He will be returning to We.ngauui in about ft week.
