BAND CONTEST.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wangakui, Friday. At the band contest the solo competitions were concluded to-day, with E flat horns. Ten competed, Wanganui obtained first, second, and third, E. Gould, R. Blyth, and G. Jensen being placed in that order. The marching competition was witnessed by a large crowd, The results are :—Wanganui Garrison, music 76, marching 288, total 364; Woodville, music 66, marching 269, total, 335; New Plymouth, music, 66, marching 265, total 331; Palmerston North, music 66, marching 259, total 325; Masterton, music 74, marching 248, total 322; Petone, music 75, marching 244, total 319. The contest concluded to-night. The results of the championships are: Wanganui, ' 357; Masterton (disqualified), 355; Petone, 317 New Plymouth, 306; Palmerston North, 305; Woodville, • 288. A great crowd gathered at the Opera House, and the contest was altogether most successful.
