AUCKLAND GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOARD.
The monthly mooting of the Board of Governors of the Auckland Grammar School took place yesterday afternoon at the offices of the secretary, Victoria Arcade. There were present: Sir. G. M. O'Rorke (chairman), Professors Brown and Thomas, the Hon. J. A. Tole, Messrs. S. Luke, L. J. Bagnall, and Theo. Cooper.
Resignation: Mr. Entrican, junior master, who joined the teaching staff of the school two terms ago, wrote tendering his resignation, which was accepted. It was agreed to advertise for a successor, at £160 a year. The Chairman said he thought the salaries of their junior masters required revision. Considering the duties, ho did not think the lemuneration was sufficient. Professor Brown suggested that they should grade their teachers. Mr. Cooper proposed, and it was agreed, " That the salaries of the staff be revised by a committee." Prize Day: It was resolved that Saturday, December 15, should be the day on which the school prizes will be presented. Proposed Boardinghouse: On the motion of the Chairman, it was agreed, "That a committee, consisting of Mr. Bagnall, Professor Thomas, Mr. Luke, Professor Brown, Mr. Tole. and the chairman, be appointed to consider what is best to be done with regard to establishing a boardinghouse for boys in connection with the Grammar School; that such committee be requested to inspect and report upon any house in the neighbourhood cf Auckland that may be deemed suitable for the purpose; and also report whether it would bo advisable to purchase a suitable piece of ground as a site for such boardinghouse. That the committee do also ascertain whether any member of the present staff being a married man would be suitable to conduct such boardinghouse; and that the committee do further consider and report whether it would be advisable to have a resident master to teach the junior boys, leaving only the senior boys to attend the Grammar School in Symonds-street." Tenders: The tender of Mr. John Davi3 (£2750) was accepted for the erection of two now houses on the Board's property at the corner of Grafton Road and Symonds-street. Twelve other builders tendered.
Endowments: The terms and upset prices of the allotments in Devonport and Edon Terrace, which are to be offered for lease on Monday next, were agreed to.
