Reed appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Cotter for the defendant. Plaintiff claimed for the possession of certain chattels, or for the sum of £150 in lieu thereof. The evidence of the plaintiff as to the ownership of tho goods occupied the wholo of yesterday afternoon, and the case was eventually adjourned till noxt week.
POLICE COURT NEWS. Messrs. J. Walters and Austin Walsh, J.P.'s, presided at the Police Court yester-
day- „ „. , Drunkenness: Vxo first offenders were convicted and discharged. Michael Foley and Frederick William Beckvritb wore fined ss, or 24 hours in default, and John Lennard, alias Juicy, and Thomas Ward, 10s, or 48 hours in default, each. Obscene Language: An old man named •Tames Davis pleaded guilty to using obscene language on the Queon-stroet Wharf. Constable Cahill said accused was abusing tin captain of tho Wakatere. A_ sentence of seven days' hard labour was imposed. Breaches of By-laws: For allowing a horse to wander at large in Crescent Road. Parncll, Frederick Smith was fined Is, and costs 7? A fine of Is. and costs 7s, was inflicted In the caso of William Fenton, charged with obstructing the carriage way in Customstreet by allowing a handcart to remain th-reon. Mark Smethurst and David Hunter v . pIV each fined 5s and costs 7s. foi riding ibirve' 3 on tho footpath in Khyber Pass
