MR. RICHARDSON'S ASPERSIONS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—ln this morning's (Thursday) issue Mr. Richardson states that he has on several occasions mentioned! that he had been told, on (he authority of persons he took to b« reliable, that the trustees of St. Matthew's building fund have invested money on mortgage on publichouso property in Queen and Hobson Streets. For untruthfulness, this statement its on a par with a good many of his sensational and defamatory utterances. As one ot the founders of this trust,, and as a trustee of this fund for 25 years-. 1 wish to inform him that there is not the slightest foundation for his assertion, as there has never been a single shilling lent upon suoh property, of which he might have satisfied himself, if a lover of truth, by application to the trustees themselves. But this ie no 4 his method; ho makes publicly » slanderous statement from mere hearsay against respectable citizens and then tells us that he will be glad to be informed that such is not the case. I now call upon him to give the names of the persons, who gave him the information, and thus clear himself of being stamped as the author of a pure fabrication.l am, etc., James Burtt.
