THE BEER-POISONING EPIDEMIC.
GOVERNMENT INQUIRY. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. London, November 28. The beer-poisoning epidemic is spreading to Chester, Birmingham, Strood, Stourbridge, Birkenhead, and Liverpool. There are 700 cases in the Manchester and Liverpool hospitals. The disease is described as peripheral neuritis, with symptoms like Berriberri fever. A chemist has been unable to discover the cause. A sugar substitute is suspected. London beers are being examined. London, November 29. A Government inquiry into the beer-poisoning epidemic in England is proceeding.
