ATHLETIC NOTES.
ST. JOHN'S COLLEGE ANNUAL SPORTS.
The tenth annual sports in connection with St. John's College were held yesterday, in the Cricket Ground. The boys were favoured with beautiful weather, and there was a large attendance of the general public, in addition to the many friends and parents of the scholars. Afternoon tea was dispensed by a number of lady friends, and a choice programme of' musical selections was gone through at intervals by the German Brass Band. A long programme of 27 events provided some excellent finishes, and everything passed off very pleasantly. A school championship cup was offered by the headmaster (the Rev. P. S. Smallfield) for competition in five test races. This was the first year of the Victor Ludorum, and it was secured by C. Cooke with 17 points, P. Sherratt acting as runner-up with two points less. The sports were really well conducted, an enjoyable afternoon resulting. Amongst those who contributed to the success of the gathering were the following gentlemen: President, Rev. P. S.
