MERCER REGATTA.
Great interest is being taken by the natives at Mercer and those of the surrounding districts to mnk<- the forthcoming regatta at Mercer, on Saturday, December 8, an immense success. The large Maori meeting which was to have been held at Huntly a few days prior to the regatta, has been postponed, to enable them to get their canoes in good order and to prepare for tho six ! Maori events which have been placed on the programme, and as a great number of entries are being received, keen and exciting contests should be expected ; the prize money amounting to over £50. Groat satisfaction has been expressed by the competitors for the three swimming events—distances, 75yts, 100 yds, and 200 yds committee havirg decided that the races will be swum with the stream, instead of across the river as hitherto. G. E. Tyler, tho New Zealand champion, has expressed his intention of competing. The crews of all tho local rowing clubs, as also I Ngaruawahia Rowing Club, having been j selected, are now in active training. All I competitors are reminded that entries must I be lodged with the local secretary (Mr. J. Thomson) at the Sports Club, before ten o'clock this evening.
