The Auckland Weekly News, now issued, is exceedingly varied, both in its letterpress and its illustrations. Its illustrations in particular are very attractive, depicting the most interesting events and places. The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club's recent carnival provides a number of delightful pictures, including the finish of the 100 yds flat race, Smith and Roseingrave taking their third hurdle in the invitation race, and one of the laps in the mile cycle race. The new Thames Hospital is illustrated— the main wards and the various members of the staff being given. The leading avenues in the Canterbury Jubilee Exhibition are depicted, and give Northerners some idea of what the city of the plains can do in this direction. The Wanganui Show, now one of the largest in New Zealand, provides some striking illustrations, many of the leading features being given. The Taranalci Guards and Rifles who marched from Stratford to New Plymouth are shown leaving Inglewood and marching through Tariki. Among a number of charming miscellaneous pictures are included excursion steamers on the Waitemata Harbour, showing how Aucklanders enjoy their holidays; the wonderful Russian ice-breaking steamer Ermack, which many people believe is capable of cutting her way to the North Vole; the Dutch cruiser Celderland, which carried Paul Kruger to Europe ; Lord Roberts and his two daughters; the guests at the DevoreManton wedding, and numerous others, all of great interest. The letterpress embraces the usual wide range of agricultural, pastoral, mining, and commercial news, together with news from every part of the world. There is an abundance of literary matter in the shape of excellent serials, short stories, descriptive articles. The Weekly News is now on sale, and can be obtained from all news-agents and runners.
