BREACH OF PROMISE CASE.

Before Mr. Justice Martin to-day, Mary Halliday, a widow of 49 years of age, sued William Cain, a widower of 67 years, for £200 damages for alleged breach of promise of marriage. Plaintiff keeps a small store at Sydenham, and defendant is a blacksmith at the same place. After evidence His Honor said that it was likely that a promise of marriage had been made, but from plaintiff's own evidence it seemed a mere moneymaking business, and damages must be nominal. The Court then awarded £5 damages, without costs.
