Crushing was resumed on behalf of the. New Whau Gold Mining Company, at the May Queen Hauraki Company's battery at the Thames, on Tuesday last, and since then the battery has been running two shifts per day on the ore. At the mine the men have been engaged breaking down the reef in the s topes, both eastward and westward of No. 2 rise. Certain timbering has also been done in the intermediate drive. Progress has been retarded somewhat on account of two of the men having been engaged at the battery. In the eastern end of the stope the reef is 2ft 6in in width, and 3ft 6in in the western end, whilst a good description ol sandstone still exists. The lode is heavily intermixed with bright minerals, and looks really well, but the quartz is of a dark nature, in which it is hard to see gold. TAIRUA BROKEN HILLS G.M. CO. Mr. H. H.
