Dr. Connolly, of Wanganui, is at present on a visit to Auckland.

Mr. A. Davis, left for Sydney by the Elingamite last evening. Mrs. Geo. Roberts, of Symonds-street, who has been on a visit to Australia, returns by the Ngapuhi to-day. Mr. Senior, of the Wanaka, has been transferred to the Hauroto as chief officer, Mr. J. Dawson remaining behind this trip. Mr. E. Withy, Mrs. Withy, and the Misses Withy, who have been on a visit to Europe, returned by the Zealandia yesterday. The Rev. W. E. Gillam, of St. Matthew's, ■who has been on a visit to Australia, returned by the Zealandia from Sydney yesterday. Mr. Otterson, Clerk to the House of Representatives, arrived in Auckland yesterday from a trip to the Waikato. He leaves for Wellington on Wednesday. Messrs. J. W. and W. Bailey were passengers to Sydney by the Elingamite last night, on a short visit on business connected with the local timber trade. Mr. James Ivirker, general manager of the South British Insurance Company, was a passenger for Sydney by the Elingamite last evening, en route for South Africa and Europe. r Mr. and Mrs. Oatts leave Sydney by the Mararoa on Wednesday, and will arrive in Auckland on Monday. A public reception will be given to Mr. Oatts on Tuesday, December 4, in the Y.M.C.A. Mr. R. Salmon announced at„the meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday that the demands of his business would prevent him from seeking re-election, much as he would like to return to the Board. He would continue, to take an in-, terest in the Board, and do anything he could to further its interest's. Our Te Aroha correspondent writes : — On Friday morning, Mr. E. Kersey Cooper, well known in mining circles at Auckland and Thames, while dressing, wlls suddenly seized with a slight shock of paralysis affecting the right side. Mr. Cooper had a heavy day's work at Waitekauri on the previous day, the strain of which doubtless led to the seizure. Dr. Cairns has been in constant attendance, and as the patient is progressing favourably, the doctor has hopes of a speedy recovery. The many Auckland, Thames, and Ohinexouri friends of the Rev. J. W. Burton will (writes our Paeroa correspondent) be pleased to learn that he has successfully completed his fourth year's probation examinations at Christchurch, and that he has been recommended for ordination at the next annual Wesleyan Methodist Conference, to be held at Wellington. The Rev. W. Tuck, wellknown at Cambridge and Paeroa, has also successfully passed his first year's probation examination at Wanganui. • ■
