HOUSEBREAKING AT THE NORTHERN WAIROA.

During the night of November 16, an entry was made into the ticket office of the Dargaville railway station. Entry seems to have been first attempted by trying to force the door with a jack, but this failing, the window at the back was broken, and an entry made there. The till was opened, but no money found. The safe was tried, but proved too difficult to force. During the same night an attempt was made to break into Underwood's with a jack, and an entry was afterwards mae'e through the billiardroom window. A glass-panelled door leading into the store was smashed, and the glass left in pieces on the concrete floor. The till was broken open and ransacked, but the half-dozen coppers in it were left. The goods in the store were not touched. —[Own Correspondent.]
