ELEPHANT - HUNTER KILLED.

SAD DEATH IN SOUTH AFRICA. | Mr. W. St. Cedd, 14, Love Walk, Denmark Hill, has just received news by mail of the tragic death, while elephant-hunting, in Addo Bush, not far from Port Elizabeth, of Mr. Harry Attrill, a gentleman well known in South London, and a member of an old Camberwell family. The letter states that Mr. Attaill, accompanied by his right-hand assistant (Crick), went out elephant-hunting, and killed one female elephant and wounded a calf. ' Proceeding, the correspondent says: " They got within 20 yards of another huge female elephant, and both fired, bringing the monster on to its knees. Notwithstanding the charge of one of the guns penetrating the forehead, her ladyship was still game, very game, so much so that she raised her great weight and, facing both of the barrels which were directed towards her, charged with great fury. The enraged animal had now four pieces of lead lodged in the near vicinity of her cranium, but, undaunted and in a terrible rage, she renewed the charge. The two sportsmen separated, and both got into positions where neither could see the other. Crick, who bad miraculously got clear of the goaded animal, called aloud for his master, but there was no response. Running this way and that way, he at last caught the words, 'Oh, God.' Proceeding in the direction of the cry, he again came upon the elephant, sitting on her hindquarters upon Mr. Attrill, crushing the life out of him. Crick, who has at all times proved most daring, advanced right up to the giant animal, but before he had time to fire she jumped up and renewed the charge. Happily, Crick once more got clear, and turning round, saw poor Attrill lying full-length on his back, crushed to death."
