MUNIFICENT BEQUESTS.

THE WILL OF THE LATE MARQUESS OF BUTE. The late Marquess of Bute's will has been lodged in the Register House, Edinburgh. His trustees are Lord Edmund Bernard Talbot, Baron Herries, and Mr. Frederick Pitman (writer to the Signet), Edinburgh. His lordship bequeathed £20,000 to the Marchioness of Bute, bis widow, and £1000 annually for life, together with the use of pictures and jewellery in life-rent. He gives £10,000 for Roman Catholic ■ Cathedral servives at Oban, £40,000 for the transference of Blair's College to St. Andrew's, £20,000 for the Oban Cathedral, £20,000 for a Roman Catholic church or monastery at Whithorn, on the site he recently bought from the Earl of Galloway, £5000 to the Roman Catholic College at St. Andrew's, annuities of £3000 to the Marchioness of Bute, and smaller annuities to several persons, including £100 to Monsignor Capel, £200 to the Bishop of Argyle, and £100 to the Bishop of Galloway. His heirs are directed to keep up the hospitals at Aberdare and Cumnock, established by him, and the institutions for children at Rothesay and Oban; £20,000 is left for the completion of the Cardiff Hospital, which takes the place of the Cardiff hospital ship Hamadryad. Lord Ninian Stuart receives the life rent of the Falkland and Durham estates; Lord Colum Stuart receives Cumbrae and the estates in Glamorganshire; his daughter, Lady Margaret, receives the estates in Palestine, Assyria, Egypt, and Turkey ; while the eldest son, the Earl of Dumfries, inherits the Bute estates for life. The estates in Ayrshire, Wigtownshire, and Dumfriesshire are made over to the heir of entail of Dumfries House, who would be entitled to the Crichton Stuart peerage of Sanquhar. The residue of the estate is reserved for the Earl of Dumfries, the eldest son. In a codicil, the marquess bequeaths £1000 each to the Roman Catholic Bishop of St. Andrew's and the Jewish Rabbi in Scotland, the proceeds in each case being for the students of St. Andrew's University.
