BARRIER REEFS G.M. CO. RESULT OF INITIAL CRUSHING. £5577 3s 9d FROM 1758 TONS. The Barrier Reefs Gold Mining Company's battery, at the Great Barrier, has completed a trial rim of 30 days, and has been taken over from the contractor. The manager reports as follows: —" During the period named 1758 ton? of ore were crushed for a return of 2090 ounces of bullion, valued at £2024 9s 6d, and 59 tons 12cwt of concentrates worth £3552 14s 3d, total £5577 3s 9d. The assay value of the ore crushed was £5 lis 2d per ton, or equal to a total value of £9774 14s. Nearly all the values obtained were from the plates and concentrates— £362 being obtained from the cyanide department, where serious losses occurred. All these faults can be remedied for the future. The stopes in the mine are looking very well; in fact, were never better. The stopa started in No. 3 level promises to open up a big body of ore. On account of the poor milling the past month only the lowest grade ore was sent to the battery. The machinery at the battery has stood the test very satisfactorily. There has been no breakage whatever, and the only damage done amounted to a few pounds from the settlement of a small concentrate vat." This return being the first to hand from any mine at the Great Barrier, considerable satisfaction was expressed at the result by those interested in the mining industry. NEW FOUR-IN-HANP G.M.
