WAIHI WATER SUPPLY.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Thursday A public meeting was held last night in the Miners' Union Hall, convened by Mr. Barry (chairman), and Mr. Charles Saunders (councillor), of the Ohinemuri Country Council, to discuss the Waihi water supply question. Mr. H. M. Haszard was voted to the chair, and there was a fair attendance. After a good deal of desultory discussion, the following resolution was finally carried: "That the Government be asked, by petition, to pass legislation allowing the local authorities to borrow the necessary funds under the Loan to Local Bodies Act to provide a permanent water supply for Waihi and other mining" towns." It was further resolved that drainage and other necessary works be added to the former resolution. A committee, consisting of Messrs. C. J. Saunders, J. W. Gray, C. Molloy, J. E. Taylor, and A. Y. Ross, was appointed to prepare a petition, and circulate the same in the district, and obtain signatures thereto; also to interview the Hon. Minister for Mines, who is expected in Waihi shortly, and use every endeavour to get the resolutions given effect to.
