ATHLETIC NOTES.
A.A.A. AND C.C. SPRING CARNIVAL. On Saturday next, at the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club's spring carnival, the public will be provided with attractions of an unusual kind. The urincipal feature of the programme, the 120 yds Invitation Hurdle Race, in which the contestants, Messrs. M. Roseingrave, Australian and Irish champion, and G. W. Smith, Australasian and New Zealand champion, should settle the long-disputed question among New Zealand and Australian writers as to which of the above is the fastest hurdler. In the bicycle races, much interest will be attached to the meeting of H. H. Brook, Alliance amateur champion, and W. Reynolds, League amateur champion, while in the halfmilo flat event, Messrs. H. A. D. Anderson Sutherland, and N. Bradley (Paeroa), who are seeking the favour of selection for the long-distance events at the New Zealand championship meeting in December, should provide a contest worth witnessing. During the aftornoon an exhibition in trick cyoling will be given by Mr. W. Honning, a variety in the programme which will bo much appreciated being thereby provided. The club, with its usual generosity, is providing afternoon tea for ladies, and during the afternoon Impey's band will discourse selections. With fine weather and good racing, the club, which is ever popular, may expect a large attendance.
