VOLUNTEERING NEWS.

The Huntly Rifles went into camp on the 18th, there being about 50 men under canvas. Lieutenant Elliott and Sergeant-Major Hoare are the officers in charge of the "muster, which is located on the Taupiri Extended property. On Sunday a church parade was conducted in the camp, the Rev. Mr. Yvard, chaplain to the corps, officiating. On Sunday afternoon the camp was thrown open to the public, afternoon tea being dispensed to the visitors by the volunteers. The usual routine is being strictly adhered to, sentries being posted day and night. The officers and men express themselves grateful to Sergeant-Major Hoare. for the pains he is taking to make them efficient. The oamp breaks up on Saturday, the 24th inst. The catering is in the hands of Sergeant Starr, and is giving general •' satisfaction. The volunteer movement is gaining ground in this district, and there is some talk about forming a second corps here. It is regretted that Captain Ralph has been so far unable to attend the camp owing to illness, and nope is expressed that the captain, who is a very popular officer, may be able to take up his duties before the muster disperses.— [Own Correspondent.]
