[BY TELEGIIArir.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington', Saturday. FLAX BONUS. The Government bonus for flax treatment has not yet been considered in Cabinet. Mr. Toogood, of Featherston, claims to hare discovered an improved method of treatment. The matter will probably be under consideration within the next week or two. RAILWAY SLEEPERS. The cost to the Government of renewing railway sleepers is a very large item of expenditure. A new method of arresting decay, known as tho Hassil-Mann eystem, is much experimented upon by engineers. The process consists in extracting the sap by means of a powerful pump, and then immersing the wood in a solution of mineral and metal salts. The Swedish Government have successfully treated nearly a million sleepers in this way. The Bavarian Government, assured of the success of the process, has directed that all sleepers and telegraph poles shall be so treated for the next five years. SALMON FISHING. The Government propose to use the vote passed last session in the construction of extensive fish hatcheries near Hakateremea, North Otago. Arrangements are to be made with the'Agent-General to supply the colony regularly with salmon ova. The first consignment of 800,000 ova may be expected shortly.
