ENTERTAINMENTS AND MEETINGS.
' ■' DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY. ' THERE was again a crowded attendance at the the City Hall last evening, when the excellent programme given on Saturday night was re-' peated with tho greatest success. Tho beautiful scene in tho first-part, "A Day in Morocco" was greatly admired, and all the songs and choruses were encored. Miss Ida Roslyn was enthusiastically received for her dances and songs, and the Warsaw Brothers, in their new sketch "The Burglar," wore warmly applauded for their instrumental selections, which wero most capably rendered. Mr! Frank Yorke and the rest of the performers were all most successful. The same programme will bo given to-night.
PONSONBY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE. The Ponsonby Schools Committee mot last evening at the Church-street school. There were present: Messrs. W. J. Rees (chairman), A, 9. Russell, Turner, Taylor, Court, and Harney. The usual reports were received from the headmasters of the Church-street, Richmond Road; and Bayfield schools. It was decided to ask the Board to effect certain improvements in the out offices. Tho chairman was appointed to make arrangements about girls' cookery classes, and accounts amounting to £12 14s were passed. Tho secretary was instructed to wite to Mr. Swales, thanking him for bis services as a member of the committee. Mr. Swales had been a useful member of the committee for 12 or 13 years. ST. JOHN'S MUSICAL AND LITERARY . SOCIETY. Last evening St. John's Musical and Literary Society hold a meeting in St. John's schoolroom, when Mr. C. E. Button delivered a most interesting lecture on tho " Catacombs of Rome," illustrated by numerous limelight views. During the evoning Mesdames i oynt and Paterson gave a pianoforte duet, and Mr. G. Horsley a vocal solo.
