Canon Fiiankltx was a passenger to San Francisco by the Mariposa yesterday. His Honor Mr. Justice Conollv was unable to leave Wellington on Saturday, but is expected to arrive in Auckland on" Wednesday next.
The Grey Lynn Borough Council has decided to appoint a health officer for the borough, and Dr. Bedford is to be invited to accept the appointment. ' i' Three Auckland cyclists Messrs. E. Reynolds, W. Tierney, and S. Draffin, left by . the 'Frisco mail boat, en route to the world's . cycling championships at Paris. It is announced that Cardinal Moran.will. visit Rome towards the end of the year, after the great Roman Catholic Congress, which will be held in Sydney in September. Three members of the University College Council— Rev. W. J. Williams, the Hon. J. A. Tole, and Mr. F. E. Baume— on the 21st inst., through the effluxion of time, Mr. J. A. Montgomery advance representative of the Henry Dramatic Compmv, has arrived from Wellington. The company opens in the Opera House on May 21,, in Charley's Aunt." By the Waikare, which arrived at Wellington from Sydney last Thursday, the Rev. J. C. Martin arrived from Sydney to take charge of the Baptist Church in Napier. Mr. Martin's previous charge was at Farmmatta, New Soulli Wales. Mr. C. McKirdy, second engineer of the Wainui, has been transferred to a corresponding position on the Mokoia. replacing Mr. Macfarlane, who has accepted the position of general supervisor of the engineering department of Messrs. Luke and Sons' establishment, vice Mr. McGregor, now in Napier. Mr. N. A. McLeod. a member of the Board of Education, who arrived in Auckland on Saturday last to attend to his duties in connection with the Board, received a telegram yesterday to the effect that one of his children was' dangerously ill, and the • doctors had given up all hope of recovery. He accordingly returned at once, and mil not be in his place at cither the committee or regular Board meetings on Wednesday next.
