IMPORTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l notico in your sub-leader some ' mportant facts as alleged, and that the figures show an increase of £453,228 in imports over and abovo those of tho corresponding quarter Inst year. This, von state, "is exceedingly satisfactory, and there were no exceptional circumstances this year to account for this substantial advance." To outsiders this is most misleading; von forget, sir, that imported goods aro invoiced from 15 to 40 per cent, higher than previously; question, Have wo imported as much as we did in tho samo poriod ? This is a matter that should be argued by the Chamber of Commerce, who will soon find out that I am correct, When such extraordinary statements are made of our seemingly wonderful prosperity folks are likely to lose their heads and enter into rash speculations.-! am, etc., Commercial.
