ENTERTAINMENTS AND MEETINGS.

POLLARD'S OPERA COMPANY. A large number of persons took the opportunity of witnessing the matinee performance of "The Bello of New York " at the Opera House on Saturday afternoon. , The house was crowded in all parts long before the riso of tho curtain, and the piece was followed with interest and appreciation throughout. The season was brought to a closo in the evening, after a successful run of four weoks, when the revival of that amusing comedy, "In Town," was witnessed by a full house, notwithstanding tho inclement weather. The large audience was kept amused all through tho piece by tho vagaries of "Captain Coddington," who was impersonated by Mr. W. Percy. The company leave to-day for Wellington. DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY. On Saturday evening tho City Hall was, as usual, crowded to the doors. The now programme presouted by Mr. Dix was received with continuous applause. Mis 3 Ida Roslyn, in her now dances and songs, was encored again and again. This lady is already an established favourite. The Warsaw Bros, were eminently successful in their new act, " Tho Burglar;" their instrumental selections, including a solo on a two-valved horn, quite brought tho houso down. Lennon, Hyman. and Lennon appeared as the " Rival Lovers,' this boing without doubt the best turn this clever trio has yet given. Mr. Frank Yorke was, as usual, to tho fore with his comic songs and sketches, and created no end of fun. Another warm favourite was Miss May Marlow, who was enthusiastically recoived on each appearance. Mr. Walter Rivers, in his baritone solos, was also cordially received, as were Miss Annetta Bodin and Mr. Johnny Collins. The excellent new first-part, "A Day in Morocco," which is resplendent in colour and effect, was generally admired. The finale, and Mr. Yorke's faree, "Stratagem," completed one of the best programmes Mr. Dix has yet staged. It will bo repeated, this evening.

PROHIBITION. The usual prohibition mooting was hold on tho wharf at throo p.m. yesterday. Mr. Richardson was tho only speaker. The following resolutions wore carried unanimously, viz., "That in the opinion of this meeting of tho citizens of Auckland who favour the prohibition of tho liquor traffic, the time has fully como when the loaders of the prohibition party in Now Zealand, and of tho City of Auckland in particular, should combine on a political basis with tho view not only of promoting tho colonial option vote by simple majority, but also of unitedly working together to secure a Parliamentary party to back up and maintain the faithful administration of such a law, when the people liavo voted for it." "That tho convener of this meeting forward the foregoing resolution to tho New Zealand Alliance Convention meeting in Wellington on the 241h inst." Tho mooting at tho firebell lapsed, owing to tho inclemency of tho weather.

ST. BARNABAS' FANCY PAIR. A largo number of visitors patronised tho fancy fair at St. Barnabas' Hall on Saturday, and when the sale concluded at night very few articles on tho various stalls wore left unclaimed. Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, tho organising secretary, and tho enorgefric committee, consisting of Mcsdames A. Heather Barnard, Beaumont, N. Williams, and Udy, aro to be congratulated upon the success which crowned their efforts. During the evening an excellent onlertainmont was submitted by tho members and friends of the St Barnabas' Young Women's Guild. Amongst other good items should bo montioned a sailor's song and hornpipe, by tho Misses Sloman, an Irish jig by Miss Beehan, and a graceful song and dance by four little suburban Japs, whilst Mr. Lloyd was extremely successful in his rendering of several cornic songs. In our issue of Saturday the names of tho captain and " midshipman" of the Royal yacht "Bobs" were inadvertently printed as .Mrs. Harnett and Miss Barnett, whereas these important positions were filled by Mrs. Barnard and Miss Julie Barnard respectively' The namo of Mrs. Littlewood was omitted from the list of ladies assisting at the needlework stall.
