TREATMENT OF INEBRIATES.
[BY TFXKGRAPIT.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CimiSTCiiuncii, Saturday. THE Christchurch hospital Board and the medical staff interviewed the Minister for Justice at the hospital on the question of the admission of inebriate cases into the institution, and pointed out that there was no suitable accommodation for such cases, and only lady nurses. There were no male attendants tc wait on cases of drunkenness. The deputation also pointed out that there were proper conveniences at the police station, including a padded cell and medical attendance. It would be very dangerous to have cases of delirium tremens amongst ordinary hospital patients. Mr. McGowan declined to send men requiring medical treatment to a padded cell. Everything pointed to the fact that the State should provide some suitable institution for such cases, but, under the present circumstances, the hospital was the only place for such cases, The difficulty was not a local one, and he would see what could be done to meet the difficulty. ■ ._
