WATER SUPPLY REMUERA.

'~ .£> . TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Having read your roport of the meeting of the Manukau water trust in Saturday's issue, in which Mr. Cochrane said that the Remuera Road District had agreed to join in their scheme, I, as a member of that Board, wish to put the Manukau ratepayers right in this matter, and deny any promise made to the trust, that we would join in any scheme they may adopt, without first having the consent of our ratepayers. Moreover, I think, with others, that we have an unlimited supply of pure water in our own district, without buying from the Manukau water trust at a high rate. Also, that Mr. Cochrane states that it will cost 5d per 100 gallons to pay their management and other expenses, exclusive of pumping expenses, which would possibly bo another 6d, and, further, our district would have to go to the expenso of our own reservoir, and supply pipes, which amounts would run the cost of our water to fully Is 3d per 1000 gallons. I think that tho Remuera ratepayers had better go in for a water trust of their own, and not pledge their district to any such heavy expenditure. —I am, etc., . W. J. Parker. Arney Crescent, May 7, 1900.
