Dun-edin, Tuesday. At the Women's National Council to-day a paper on temperance was read by Miss Roberts, who advocated prohibition of the liquor traffic. Resolutions were carried in favour of n majority vote deciding the licensing question, and pledging 1h? Council to use its influence against the manufacture, importation, and sale of alcoholic liquors. Two delegates favoured the nationalisation or nnmieipalisatlon o? the liquor traffic. In the evening illegitimacy was tie- subject of a paper bv Mrs. Williamson, after which, the Council carried a resolution urging that the ace of consent be raised to 21 years, advocating the removal of all legal disqualifications upon illegitimate children, approving of the desirability of the appointment of a public officer, who may be a woman, to discover the parentage of i'legitimate children, with the view of enforcing the proper maintenance of the child, and suggesting the establishment of a cottape home for the reception of illegitimate children.
