ROAD BOARDS.

AROIIIin-I;. A roil was taken on Saturday for the eleci tion of three members of tho Archhill Road I Board. Mr. J. Franklin was returning officer. The result of the voting was that I Mr. Maurice Casey received 95 votes; Mr. John .Tonkin, 91 votes; Mr. Joseph Catchpole, 73 votes; and Mr. G. J. Garland, 55 votes. There was one informal vote. Tho three gentlemen first named are therefore elected.

ONE-TREE HILL. I Tho annual mooting of ratepayers in tlio Ono-treo Hill Road District, appointed to bo hold at the Epsom Hall on Saturday last, lapsed for the want of a quorum. Tho bal-ance-sheet to March 31 last, laid on tho tablo for inspection, showed that tho total expenditure for the vear had boon £811 8s 9d, and tho receipts £1334 12b lOd, thus leaving a credit balance of £523 4s Id. During tho j year £495 13s lOd had been collected in rates, I and of this amount £141 16s 8d was arrears for tho 1898-99 period, and tho balance (£353 17s 2d) rates for the year just completed. Tho following details were also shown:—Credit: Government subsidy, £239 7s 4d; publicans' licenses, £75 conditional license?, £23 10s; dog tax, £25 2s 6d. Debit: Administration, £45 lis Id; contribution to Charitable Aid Board, £141 7s 6d; expenditure on roads, £615 9s lOd (viz., material and carting £455 12s lOd, and labour £159 17s). After somo discussion between ratepayers present, tho clerk (Mr. William Hogg) was asked to instruct the Board's sanitary inspector to mako an inspection of tho district, and report to tho next Board meeting on all insanitary premises and spots that might come under his notice

AVONDALE. Tho annual meeting of the ratepayers c.f the Avondalo Road District was held on Friday evening in the public hall. Mr. Thomas B. Clay (chairman of the Road Board) presided. The meeting was fairly well attended, and more interest was taken in tho proceedings than usual. The chairman drew tho attention of the ratepayers to tho largo amount of work that had lieen carried out during tho year. Several new houses had been erected both on tho Rosebank Road and Avondalo South. The road had now been formed to Blockhouso Bay, also down Gilfillan-streot as far as Oonnell-strect, The Board had also expended a largo amount. of money in making footpaths, towards which the residents had made liberal donations. A footpath is now being mado the whole length of Rosobank Road, which will be tho means of further advancing this popular neighbourhood. The Board had now under consideration tho question of planting^English and nativo trees round tho village, 'so as to mako it more attractive, and an inducement for people to sottlo in the district. Now that there was likely to bo hotter travelling accommodation, there was no reason why tho district should not go ahead very quickly, ami it was the duty of the Board to try and keep paco with tho times, if possible. This would require money, but tho Board wero of opinion that the ratepayers would not object to an extra rate if necessary. The report and balance-sheet, which was adopted, subject to audit, showed that out of a total revonuo of £626 14s Bd, £43 9s 7d had been expended on administration, £376 7s Id on public works, £56 4s 3d had been contributed to the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Beard, leaving a credit balance of £138 4s 9d. On tho motion of Mr. Knight, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to tho chairman and other members of tho Board.

KTRIKIRIROA.

The annual meeting of ratepayers lapsed on Friday for want of a quorum. The annual meeting of the Board was held. Present: Messrs. J. Gordon. T. Paterson, M. G. Farrer, and F. R. Seddon. The returning officer reported that Messrs. M. 0. Farrer, John Primrose, and F. R. Seddon had been re-elected unopposed. Mr. John Gordon was olected chairman. The chairman reported that a new fenoo had been erected along the foreshore of the river near Taupiri. It. was decided to ascertain who had erected the- fence, and havo it removed at once. Mr. T. McDonald, of North Ngaruawahia, wrote asking that the road bo opened leading from the Great South Road to the Waikato River. The road had been fonced by Mr. Green, and the foreman was instructed to interview him with a view to the. removal of the obstruction. It was agreed to havo a oulvcrt on the Tramway Road lowered, in order to give Mr. Casey an outlet for the wafer from his land. the clerk read the following financial statement: Receipts to date, £465 12s 8d; expenditure, £67 17s: balance, £397 15s 6d; subsidy duo, £30; rates due, £22 lis 8d; penalties duo, £2 5s 2d: total, £452 12s M. Accounts duo, £12519s 2d: assets. £32613s 2d. The foreman in his report stated that about 55 chains near Hopnhopu required gravolling. Mr. Littlewood bad offered to do the work for Is OJd per yard. The offer was accepted. It was decided to erect a (rate on Mr. T. Paterson's land, in order to give access to the gravel nit lcindlv placed at the disposal of the Board. The formal resolution with regard to overdraft was passed. Several accounts wore passed for payment
