A SEAMAN'S STRANGE DEATH
[by telegraph.—press association.] Dunedin, Tuesday. A death under somewhat singular circumstances occurred at St. Clair beach this afternoon. John Ileartley, a seaman, was seen to undress opposite the Esplanade and go into tho water. He rolled about amongst the surf and then stood up. Ho was seen apparently to fall down and the rollers carriedJiim out to the beach. When examined life was not oxtinct, but before Dr. Watt could arrive from Forbur- camp the man was dead. Ho had been employed lately as night watchman oil the steamer Eimu, and had been drinking somewhat heavily.
