LOCAL OPTION POLL.
WAITEMATA. Tire final result of the local option poll is as lollows : —Continuance, 1943 ; reduction, 1018 ; no-license, 1184. THAMES. Our Coromandel correspondent writes: — The following is an analysis of the voting in the Thames electorate on the liquor question : The total number of persons voting was 4743. To obtain a bare majority, in accordance with the Act, 2372 were required in order to carry reduction, and as 2081 were recorded for that proposal there was a deficiency of 291 votes. The three-fifths required for carrying no-license necessitated 2846, and as 2365 were recorded for that proposal there was a shortage of 481. Another point is that 117 voted for reduction only, and 401 for total abolition, who did not believe in reduction. At the last general election (1896) 2016 voted for licenses, 1532 for reduction, and 1775 for no-license. On this occasion 2155 voted foi licenses, being a gain of 139 votes, 2081 voted for reduction, being a gain of 549 votes, and 2365 voted for no-license, beins, a gain of 590. INVERCARGILL. [BY telegraph.—press association.] Invehcargill, Monday. The licensing poll resulted Continuance, 2228; reduction, 2172; prohibition, 2300.
