FIGHT BETWEEN FRENCH AND CHINESE. THE PHILIPPINE WAR. By Telegraph.— Association—Copyright. Syd.vey, December 11. Eastern news states that a small force of French troops, reconnoitring in the vicinity of Kwangwan, were attacked by a band of armed Chinese. A lively engagement took place, the Chinese being routed, leaving a hundred dead. Tho French had three wounded. Affairs are very quiet in the Philippines, there being no fighting. During the wet season the country is one great swamp. In the opinion of the authorities at Manila the insurgents will be practically defeated by the beginning of March.
