The National Bank of .sew Zealand shipped by the Wailiora for Sydney yesterday, for transhipment to London, 15 bars of bullion, valued at £14,680. BUNKER'S HILL G.M. CO. The prospects on this company's property continue to improve. In the south stope colours of gold have been seen in the quartz broken down, and specimen stone to the amount of 291b, was taken from the north •stope during the past week. There is now in hand a total of 511b of specimen and picked stone, and the leader continues to look promising. Yesterday the mine manager telegraphed to Auckland that an additional 141b of picked stone had been taken from the stopes. HEW FOUR-IN-HAND G.M. CO. The directors of the New Four-in-Hand Gold Mining Company have purchased the claim known as the Tandem, fur 6000 of the company's shares. The Tandem contains 30 acres and adjoins the north boundarv of the company's property, being only 750 ft from the present workings. The Four-in-Hand reef has been found to run through the claim. We understand that owing to the satisfactory development on the reef in the Four-in-Hand men were put on to prospect for it on the Tandem boundary, and after 40ft of driving the reef was found, proving to be 3ft wide, and the quartz taken from it of payable quality. The directors are confident they have secured a valuable adjunct to their property, as the whole line of reef can be worked from their present levels. —I WAIHI G.M. CO. [ill' TELEGRAPH.ow.v CORRESPONDENT.] T P.aeroa, Monday, it will be remembered that last month a crosscut was commenced about south magnetic from the No. 4 level, with a view to picking up the new lodes intersected in the south-eastern crosscut. This working, of course, would meet the lodes in about a direct line from the shaft, and thus save about 700 ft of trucking. This crosscut has just met what will probably be the first of the three lodes. It has been named the Albert. The lode forms the present face, so thatnothing can yet be said of its size or quality, though in the south-eastern crosscut it was about 6jft wide. So far it bears a strong healthy appearance. When the reef has been passed through the face of the crosscut will be advanced to pick up the other two lodes. Great hopes are entertained respecting the last of the three reefs, which lias been proved to bo of considerable value. Since its intersection last month, it was driven upon for a length of about 50ft west, after which it was penetrated, and at that particular point was proved to be fully 16ft wide. An eastern drive was then mil out, and the course of the lode followed for 50ft, when a crosscut was also commenced at that point. Splendid results have followed, the working in question having revealed up to the present a solid bank of stone, measuring 18ft across, without any si™ of tin* ni1..." ivftli. ine ore is also ot splendid quality, so that the company have even in this lode alone brilliant prospects awaiting them. A i commencement was made to sink a shaft! near Mi. Barry's garden, in order to facili- i tate the development of this section of the • property, but. it has been stopped for the present, until Mr. Barry arrives. Crosscutting for the same reefs is also under wav tit No. 3 level, 1 _ THE GUMTOWN FIELD. [by TELEGRAPH. OWN* COItRKS [MXDIDN'T.] Cohomaxdel. Monday. Quite a rush has set in at this new field, and over a dozen mining sections of 100 acres cach have been applic i for. The claims are mostly on the Hapowai block, in and around the vicinity of Blip Creek, and about six miles from Gumtown. The most successful parties so far are Messrs Mcikle and Mclsaac. Murphy and McNaughton, and George Lindsay. Loose gold has been proved to extend over a wide area, and the district opens up great possibilities. NEWS FROM THE MINES. [BY TELEGRAPH. — CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Monday. MAY QUEEN lIACRAKI. During the past four weeks the tributers employed in this company's mine have crushed 54i tons of quartz for a yield of 68oz 7dwt of gold, valued at £181 19s Id. NEW MOAXATAIARI. The main reef at No. 4 level continues to look well, and to show strong colours and dabs of gold. A crushing of about 60 tons of ore from the reef in question was commenced ift the company's battery this afternoon. During the past four weeks 12 tribute parties employed in the mine crushed a combined tonnage of 39 tons of ore for a yield of 121oz 18dwt of gold, valued at £330 17s 7d. ECLIPSE (LIMITED). Crushing operations were commenced at this company s new 10-stamper battery, up the Tararu Creek, this morning. Everything in connection with the battery and aerial tramway is working very satisfactorily. About 30 tons of ore were sent down the tramway on Friday and Saturday last, and a further quantity was sent down to-day. The prospects in the mine are said to be of a most encouraging character, and no difficulty is likely to be experienced in keeping the battery supplied with ore for treatment, so far as quantity is concerned. THAMES HAURAKI. Since the repairs were effected to No. 2 Cameron pump on the 14th inst., the pumping operations carried on by this company have progressed without the slightest hitch, all the machinery and pumps having worked most satisfactorily. The lower or No. 1 Cameron pump is now down to the old No. 10 level, and to-day the water was being lifted from the floor of that level, whilst the enlargement of the shaft has been carried down 2J>ft below the top of the chamber. There is no change to report from the Deep Sinker section, except that a bluer class of sandstone is being penetrated than that which has prevailed for some time previously. DUNEDIN STOCK QUOTATIONS. Maratoto (Maroloto, October 19): The following is a statement of tho work done in the mine for the woek oiuling as above:— No. 1 level—The work of sinking tho No. 2 winze, below the No. 1 level, south of Mcßrinns' Creek and 600 ft distant from No. 1 winze, was started on Monday last by the contractors, who have accomplished sft, making its total depth 10ft. Hfere tho lode is being broken out to an average width of 4ft, without any sign of the footwall, and the average assay value of the oro is £4 lis per ton. No. 2 level—The contractors for extending this level south of tho connection with the No. 1 level workings commenced operations on Monday last, since when they havo driven oft 6in. Work here is being continued on the liangingwall lode, which measuring 18in in thickness, is running in comparatively hard ground, and tho ore in (tie present face is low-grade in quality. There is not much chance of meeting with a change here until tho level reaches the dip of the rich ore shoot which was followed down from the No. 1 level in the No. L winze, and which should bo to hand within tho next 35ft of driving. Imperial (Knrnngahake, October 21): The contractors for the extension of the western crosscut are making very satisfactory headway, 21ft being accomplished for tho week which makes the total distance driven 141 ft from tho starling point. The country in the lace at present is sombwhat tighter but of a good description; also, a good deal of water is issuing from the ground, and this fact is looked upon « being an indication that the No. 2 lode is well nigh at hand. At the entrance of this level a new paddock capable of holding a very large quantity of quartz, has been completed, also a new smithy been erected. Driving is being continued as usual on life south courso of tho new reef, but so far there is no chango ill the lode worthy of mention.
