FOOTBALL.
Pitt, tho well-known North Shore " winger," is a member of the TransVaal contingent, leaving for South Africa to-day. H. Lewis, the ex-Aucklander, and member of the Newton F.C., who played in the Queensland forwards this year, left Sydney for England recently, but expects to return about May next. At the Dunedin City Court recently the Magistrate sentenced ICeogh, a well-known footballer, to three days' imprisonment, with hard labour, for using obscene language. A Kaffir team of Association footballers, selected by the Orange Free State, arrived in England on August 25, and they were to have played their opening game against Aston Villa on September 1. A programme of 40 matches has boon arranged for them, but, judging by recent events in South Africa, it is duubted as to whether they will be vory popular in England. C. Burrell, who played suoh good games at fullback for Canterbury during the season just closed, has left Christehurch for Invercargill. Canterbury's loss will be Southland's gain. ___
