THE TUG CHAMPION AND THE BUNINYONG.

The Melbourne Argus, reporting the arrival of Messrs. Howard Smith's steamer Buninyon-. in toft ot the Champion, says:-ilie weather conditions were fair at the outset, and the tug made splendid progress with her charge an average 6peed of lu knots being maintained to Cape Everard, where, however, the wind began to blow with considerable strength, uniimately developing into a strong west-south-west gale, accompanied by a very tavv sea. During this gale the tow rope parted, but the connection between the two vessels was soon restored, and a fresh start 2 ma de. From Cape Everard to Port Phillip Heads the vessel had to face fairiy strong head winds and seas, notwithstanding which they came along at a 4J-knot hourly meed arriving at Port Phillip Heads at one clock on Tuesday morning, and proceeding ° l? to the river wharf, where the Bumnyong was safely berthed soon aftei daybreak. The Champion is a remarkably wholesome-look-ing tug, and is comparatively new, having been built four years ago at Newcastle-on-Tyne. She can steam 134 knots pel hour under ordinary circumstances, and, therefore, in point of speed, could hold her own with nine out of ten of the intercolonial passenger iteamcrs. The Champion generally justifies her name as far as Australian tow-boats are concerned. THE MEDIC. The White Star liner Medic, which has arrived at Sydney, is described as the largest vessel ever seen in New South Wales waters. The Medic was built by Messrs. Ilarland and Woolf, of Belfast, in December last, and her dimensions Length. 550 ft; breadth. 63ft; depth, 44ft; with a registered tonnage of 11.934 tons. The vessel has accommodation for about 326 passengers known as the " third class." She has triple expansion engines, capable of giving a speed of 13 knots. The dining saloon is a spacious apartment, provided with tables and swivel chairs that ei>able 350 passengers to take their meals at one time. The saloon runs the whole width of the ship, and the pantry is conveniently placed ne;.r the entrance. There is a piano in tlio saloon for the amusement of the passengers, also a library and a smoking-room, luxuries not usually included in third-class accommodation. As might he expected, there is no pretence at elaborate ornamentation in the fittings, but a general air of substantial comfort may he noted. There are also well-equipped hospital wards, and a ship's surgeon is carried. The Medic is not only a colossal cargo-carrier, but a comfortable pascenter boat. A visit to the refrigerating chamber, which is of great size, with its imposing array of machinery, is a revelation, and it does' not come as a surprise to hear that there is a net insulated capacity of approximately 25.000 cubic feet, equivalent to 80.000 carcases; also, that the Medio can stow away 24,000 bales of wool and 3000 tons of J. deadweight. <
