ATHLETIC NOTES.
THE AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. GOODWIN DECLINES TO GO. "Ytxk" ha? received a private wire from Mr. W. Shannon, of Wellington, stating that H. Goodwin was selected for the Australasian championships at Brisbane in November without trial, and very properly declined to go. In this connection it may be mentioned that McAffer, of Auckland, attended at the Domain Cricket Ground on Saturday afternoon with the intention of giving a second test under more favourable conditions, but owing to the receipt of a telegram from the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to the effect that H. Goodwin had been chosen as walking representative, the trial was abandoned.
