CumsTCHCitCH, Thursday. The Supreme Court to-day heard the case of Logan v. Thornton, proprietor of the Ellesmere Guardian, a claim for £300 for alleged libel, which appeared in an issue of defendant's paper, with reference to the conduct by plaintiff of his hotel at Doyleston. Defendant paid £15 into Court. The jurygave a verdict for plaintiff for £20, stating they were of opinion that defendant was not guilty of gross negligence in publishing the article.
Invercargill, Thursday.' Richard Santz, the solitary sick man left on Macquarie Island, through stress of.weather, some months ago, was brought up by the Annie Hill, "which has a large cargo of penguin oil— casks.
